Lead-Free Press Release
RE: RECOMMENDATION FOR LEAD-FREE PROTECTIVE APPAREL
According to a report published in the February 2017 issue of Journal of the American College of Radiology, 63% of lead (Pb) protective garments carry some degree of lead dust on the exterior surface.
This accumulation of lead dust was without regard to shield intactness, thickness, or age. However, there was a correlation between the presence of lead dust and a garment's visual appearance, type of garment, and/or storage method.
Based on the evidence, the report issued a recommendation "to transition all radiation shielding to lead-free materials to eliminate unnecessary exposure to lead-containing dust."
